who is kate ahn?
kate ahn is a Los Angeles-based artist who explores female sexuality through explicit self-portraits. Heavily influenced by her Korean upbringing, where sex is treated as a taboo subject, Ahn paints nude figures as a way of reclaiming her sexuality. Both the model and the painter, the object and the subject, Ahn explores what it means to see and be seen as a woman living in a patriarchal society. Through the exaggerated, “perfect” features of her figures, Ahn maps out the intense and often contradictory relationship we have with our bodies, an intimate relationship that can be both freeing and restricting.
